Our Story

“I jumped right in and learned by doing!”
~Patrick Frisco, Winemaker & Proprietor

Our story is about heritage, passion, family, faith, dedication, hard work, and a lot of grit and laughter.

As a native to California’s Central Coast, Patrick was accustomed to wineries and vineyards in the area, yet it was a trip to Italy in 1999, and upon meeting his family in Sicily, that sparked his interest in making wine. His family had a vineyard in the countryside and made wine, a practice collectively spanning several generations. “All of it, it struck me in a profound way” he related. “That wine was an expression of my family. It told a story. I saw generations pour forth from that wine, and I too, was part of that.”Located in Paso Robles, the heart of the Central Coast of California, we craft small-lot wines rich in complexity and with intense expression. We produce ultra-limited quantities and so each wine is genuinely handcrafted. Cabernet Sauvignon, is our flagship wine. We invite you to enjoy our delicious and delicately balanced wines.

A year later, after studying abroad in Italy and having lived part of the summer in Medjugorje, Bosnia & Herzegovina, he returned home to California, and now quite motivated to make his first wine. “I laugh, thinking about my first ‘vintage.’ I knew hardly anything about how wine was actually made—and nothing of its chemistry then—but I was fascinated by it and mystified by its transformation.” He began with some table grapes he found in the refrigerator, placed them in a pot and crushed them with a potato masher. A few days later—wine! “It really wasn’t so good, and it was only a few glasses worth, but I did it, I made wine!”

“I still marvel at its wonder and revel in its artistry. Each wine is truly a fascinating story.”

His enthusiasm for winemaking has driven his passion for making extraordinary wines. That passion, now coupled with an enological knowledge has guided him in producing the award-winning wines that Frisco Cellars has become renowned. Patrick has also assisted at other wineries in Paso Robles and has had the wonderful opportunity to work alongside other Central Coast winemakers.

Patrick is proud of his strong connecton to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After graduating from Cal Poly in Communication Studies, he continued his education and now teaches at Cal Poly.
